This is a short series of portraits, made on the street with a small backdrop (and a great helper friend to hold it!) to showcase people’s homemade, but often elaborate, costumes, at Austin’s annual Dia de los Muertos (aka Day of the Dead) parade.

I’m told dressing as the dead or wearing a mask is suppose to disguise the living, as the dead, so that the dead will go back from whence they came when the day ends, but I didn't read that on Wikipedia.
